Third Podium for Bauhaus on Stage 11 of Tour de France

Phil Bauhaus sprinted to third in Moulins on Stage 11 behind race winner Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and runner-up Groenewegen (Jayco AlUla). It’s the third podium finish for the German sprinter, who continues to demonstrate his excellent form.

Following a chaotic and full gas day yesterday, it was an easier day for the peloton, with cooler conditions and only three riders in the breakaway. The break had a gap of 3:30, but the sprint teams controlled at the front to reel them in 14km from the finish.

Rain started to fall as the peloton approached the finish in Moulin, making it more technical for the sprint teams. Bauhaus positioned himself behind the lead out of Groenewegen but didn’t quite have the legs to go around him while Philpsen continued to show his dominance at this year’s Tour, taking his fourth stage win.

Despite not getting the win, Bauhaus was pleased with his performance: “A pretty controlled day, and to be honest, my legs were not the best from the start, but once you focus a bit more and the adrenaline came, I felt a bit better and mainly Fred, Matej and me we could stay in a good position towards the final. Freddie was pretty strong today, and he showed that on the last kilometre to put me on Groenewegen’s wheel, and I followed. And then I also need to be honest I didn’t have the legs anymore in the final, so I think third place is more or less the maximum for today.”
