Bahrain Victorious is set to compete in the UCI Gravel World Series at the Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava Girona by Continental, with two strong athletes for this specialty representing the team: Gravel World Champion Matej Mohoric and Matevz Govekar.
The challenging 107.22 km course features an impressive 1,828 m of elevation gain, winding through the picturesque Les Gavarres Massif, a renowned mountainous area near Girona, in Spain. The race will commence in the town of Juià, starting with a neutralized section on tarmac before taking a demanding gravel climb.
Midway through the race, riders will face a significant ascent to Puig d’Arques (533 m), one of the highest points in Les Gavarres, followed by a technical descent. The second half of the course presents a mix of undulating terrain and a fast, flat section, culminating in the final climb. The closing kilometers run alongside the River Ter, leading to the finish at the Municipal Pavilion of Girona-Fontajau, part of the Sea Otter Europe Girona Costa Brava festival.
This race marks the last competitive outing for Mohoric before he heads to the World Championship, where he aims to defend his rainbow jersey.
“I’m pretty excited about starting a race with my World Champion jersey again for the last time before the World Championships in Leuven in October,” said Mohoric. “Of course, I want to do well, especially because I would love to win a race wearing the rainbow jersey. I arrived in Spain earlier to check the course and make any necessary adjustments to our setup, and hopefully, I will be in the mix to fight for the win.”
