After winning the first monument of the season at Milano San Remo, Matej Mohorič is eyeing up the Tour of Flanders with the help of his teammates. Alongside the Slovenian National Champion is the experienced Henrich Haussler, whose classic racing experience will be invaluable. Fred Wright, Jasha Sutterlin, Filip Maciejuk, Jan Tratnik and Dylan Tuens round up the line-up.
The 106th edition of the Tour of Flanders starting in Antwerp follows the previous 272.5km route, which features 18 climbs, with the majority also featuring cobbles. With these climbs only entering the fray after 100km into the race, it will be a gruelling final 172.5km before the finish in Oudenaarde.
The main climbs across the route are the Oude Kwareont featuring three times and the punchy Paterberg twice. It’s the Paterbeg which will be the final climb, and despite being just 400m long, it has a peak gradient of over 20%.
A short descent down the Paterberg will leave 13km remaining into the finish in Oudenaarde after over six hours of racing, eventually deciding the winner of this year’s Ronde van Vlaanderen
Matej Mohorič is looking forward to the race:” I feel good, I think I am in a good place, and my condition is catching up after the setbacks I had earlier in the season. I will do my best to fight for the win on Sunday. I believe I have an honest chance to have a go. It will be far from easy, but I am very much looking forward to a great race! We do have a very strong team, and hopefully, we can have numbers up there in the final in the last 50 km and play our cards well.”
