The 57th edition of the Amstel Gold Race starts in Maastricht this Sunday and marks the start of the Ardennes Classics block of racing. The 253.6km route, characterised by steep climbs and sharp turns, sees the riders taking 3,290 vertical meters over 33 climbs.

Matej Mohorič leads the line-up with the support of Arndt, Govekar, Miholjević, Poels, Milan and Maciejuk. Mohorič believes he is still in good shape following the cobbled classics:” Amstel is the race I’m most experienced in, and I think I’ve done it every year since I’ve turned pro. So it’s a race I really like, and I’m coming here in good condition, and the legs are still there. I had lots of bad luck in the previous three races, and so coming here, I’ve got the desire to turn that around and get a result here in Amstel.”
