On day two of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, 171.5km was covered by the riders as they made their way from a sun-kissed Bétera to Torrent. Matej Mohoric was able to bring home fourth place with an excellent effort in the final moments as the riders approached the city Torrent but he felt it could’ve gone even better. Matej said: “Unfortunately I lost a lot of speed in the last corner as the final sprinters came from the back, but still, I managed to finish fourth, which isn’t a bad result.”
In the early moments of the race, a group of 6 riders broke away from the peloton to create a gap of around four minutes or so, but this ultimately never stretched to anything further. Eventually, teams in the peloton began to make their attacks with around 35km to go as the pace increased significantly.
With just over 13.3km left of racing, Dylan Teuns made an impressive solo attempt at breaking away from the peloton as the course began to go downhill but unfortunately the group behind made enough ground to catch up with Teuns. Dylan spoke shortly after the race: “There was a little bit of movement in the climb and I had the legs to go, but I knew it would be difficult – lots of teams wanted to sprint!”
As the day draws to a close, the general classification shows Luis Leon Sánchez in fourth, 42 seconds behind the leader Remco Evenepoel but we have high hopes of making ground in the tough, uphill stage three tomorrow.
