Landa Leads Strong Line-up for La Flèche Wallonne

Mikel Landa heads up a strong Bahrain Victorious Line Up to La Flèche Wallone as the team looks to defend the title after Dylan Teuns secured victory on the Mur de Huy in 2022.

Mikel will have the support of Gino Mäder, Wout Poels, Matej Mohorič, Fran Miholjević, Filip Maciejuk and fellow Basque rider Pello Bilbao.

Starting in Herve, the 87th edition of La Flèche spans 194.3km and 3,094 meters of climbing over 11 climbs. In the final 100km of the race, the riders will enter a circuit that they will complete three times before they finish atop Mur de Huy.

Following a bout of sickness after Itzulia Basque Country, Mikel Landa will be looking to test the legs: “After Basque Country, I was ill with a cold, so I’m not sure about my shape. I don’t want to have too much expectation, but I’d like to be in the front as it’s a course with climbs that are good for me. After the week I’ve had, I will be looking to enjoy the race and assess my form afterwards.”

SD Roman Kreuziger believes the team line-up provides options: “I know Mikel has had a cold, but after what he showed in Basque, I’m confident he will perform, and it’s not been a long period off the bike, so I’m expecting him to be there.

We also have Gino coming from altitude, and it’s the final preparation before Romandi and Giro, so he should be at a good level. And when aggressive racing comes, we’ve got Wout and Matej.

We will need to be careful from the start with the wind, and then on the circuit, it’s about following the big guys, staying calm, and looking to play the cards on the Mur de Huy.”
