Jack Haig 6th in GC at Paris Nice

After a gruelling eight stages, Jack Haig secured 6th place in the overall at Paris Nice, improving on his 7th place from the 2021 edition.

Despite the strong result from Haig, Bahrain Victorious saw several team members fall ill and abandon the race, including our sprinting prowess,  Sonny Colbrelli and vital support for the GC, Gino Mader and Luis Leon Sanchez.

Despite the bad fortunes, in the absence of Colbrelli, the young Fred Wright battled out for two top-10 finishes on the sprinter stages, while the echelons played their role in breaking down the GC battle.

With limited support, Haig was able to fight through the race and move from 16th in GC after the first three days and battle his way a further ten spots up in the rankings.

Jack Haig: “We just finished Paris – Nice and we managed to finish with strong sixth place. Despite only having 4 riders, the team did an amazing job today. Everyone that was here has been super strong and I think for Fred going to the classics can be quite positive, as well as for myself and Wout coming into Volta a Catalonia next. It was sad to miss Sonny and I really hope he’s better for Milano – San Remo coming up. Overall we had really nice Paris – Nice, few people got a little bit sick, I’m suffering little bit now, but hopefully will be better soon.

Sports Director Neil Stephens shared his thoughts after the final stage: ” As we expected, a really hard day of racing here in Paris Nice on the last stage under the rain and cold. The boys were just fantastic all-day with Fred and Wout. Jack didn’t have a great day but pedaled through.

The news of the win over in Tirreno gave us a boost throughout the day and Jack was able to get through with a 6th in the GC. A successful week here and over in Tirreno, and we’ll be back for the next races.”
