Experience and Young Talent Lead Bahrain Victorious into CRO Race

The 10th edition of the CRO Race kicks off on Tuesday in Croatia’s second-largest city, Split, and concludes six stages later in the capital, Zagreb. Over the course of 925 kilometres and 11,000 meters of elevation, riders from 20 teams will face a true test of endurance and versatility.

On paper, four stages favour the sprinters, but the wind could play a decisive role, especially on day 2. The route runs along the coast before heading inland, only to cross the bridge onto the island of Pag, where crosswinds are as much a part of the landscape as the scenery itself.

For the general classification, Stage 4 and Stage 5 are expected to be decisive. The familiar climb of Poklon on Učka mountain features in Stage 4, but this year it comes mid-stage, giving the peloton time to reel back the pure climbers who may attack there. Stage 5, with its ascent of Plešivica just 15 km from the finish, will offer a final opportunity for those looking to shake up the GC.

Our team arrives with a dynamic mix of youth and experience, guided by captain on the road, Damiano Caruso. says Sports Director Aart Vierhouten :

“Edoardo Zambanini is expected to lead the team, as the two hardest stages suit his profile. But we’ll also watch Jakob Omrzel closely, he’s coming straight from the World Championships, and depending on his condition, he could share the leadership role.

Damiano is still coming back from a broken bone in his hand, but his recovery has gone well. We don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on him, though the signs are positive.

Max van der Meulen returns from a collarbone injury and looks ready to race. For the sprints, Žak Eržen will take the lead. After strong work as a lead-out for Phil Bauhaus, he now has the chance to seize his own opportunities. Supporting him will be Vlad Van Mechelen, who brings sharp form from the Belgian classics and can both support Žak in the sprints and also be something of a wildcard when we need that up our sleeve. Finally, Fran Miholjević will be an important presence in his home race. With the route passing through his hometown, his local knowledge of the parcours will be a real advantage. He’ll support both sprinters and climbers, giving us strength across all terrains.”
