BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS TO GENT-WEVELGEM

The third race in Belgium for Bahrain Victorious is the 84th edition of Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields on Sunday, March 27th, with the 249km course starting in the old town, Ypres.

Over the past few editions, Gent-Wevelgem has taken a similar appearance to other races in Flanders with the introduction of cobbled sectors and climbs. Ultimately, the race has given both sprinters and the classic specialists a fairer fight for victory.

The route’s most challenging parts start 150km into the race, with a staggering nine climbs packed over just 65km. Gravel sectors, plenty of helligen including the Kemmelberg and several technical roads, will keep the riders about their wits.

Michal Golas, Bahrain Victorious Sports Director:
“Gent-Wevelgem tactically-wise is not a super tough race, but in the past few years, it has become more selective due to some changes made to the course that suited more the pure sprinters. Not to forget the wind, as we are close to the North Sea, although we can’t say if it is hard enough to split the peloton, it can undoubtedly affect the race, making it stressful. We are in Flanders, and a good position in the key sectors will be again fundamental. Our guys did that pretty well in the last few races.
Everybody is expecting a battle between the group of sprinters and that of classic specialists. We will have one of the best of them, like Matej Mohorič, who got good confirmation of his shape at the E3. Therefore, we will try to ride to set the race suits him to let him be a protagonist in the finale.”
