The 75 edition of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad started in Ghent and finished 200km later in Ninove. The riders faced windy and wet conditions all day.
It was Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafredo) who crossed the line in first after a sprint finish with Belgian compatriot Yves Lampaert (Deceuninck-QuickStep). Finally, Norwegian rider, Soren Kragh Andersen (Sunweb) rounded off the podium in third.
Our primary riders today were Heinrich Haussler and Dylan Teuns. Haussler displayed strength and was proactive, trying to keep the front position of the breakaway group and later on in the chasing group. Dylan Teuns managed to merge with the peloton and tried to find the right moment to jump to the front.
Dylan Teuns finished the race in 18th position and said; “Today was not my best day. I was suffering a bit for the first two hours. Later on, I found some better feelings and I fought to come back with the group with the favourites, but unfortunately there was a strong breakaway. In the end, I fought for the best position possible”.
Heinrich Haussler gave us his thoughts after the race finishing 22nd; “Obviously I am happy with my performance, but not with the result. I also think with Dylan being in the group at the front, we were kind of safe a little bit, but feeling strong is not really so great. You need a top result. It is good to be there in the front with the race and to attack, but tomorrow we need to be better. I’ve been around for many, many years, so you kind of know how the form is. If you are good at the Nieuwsblad and Kuurne, then you know that you’re gonna be good in all the Classics. But with the wind today, with the cold and the rain it was an absolutely brutal race. You can probably see on my face that I’m smashed”.
