Mohorič climbed to 3rd place on the stage and 2nd overall at Tour de Pologne

Matej Mohorič and Dylan Teuns entered the last 1,5km in the reduced group, and both managed to place in the top 10, Matej being 3rd and Dylan 9th. The winner of this stage and GC leader is Joao Almeida, while Diego Ulissi came second. With this 3rd place, Mohoric moves to 2nd in General Classification.

Stage 2 of the Tour de Pologne was made for classic riders, it was a flat stage most of the parcours, but the last 1.5km were steep. The first part of the climb was cobbled and it reaches 10%, then there was a short but fast descent with a sharp turn going into the second part of the climb with a maximum of 16%. The last 200m to the finish were slightly downhill.

The start saw riders take on the 200km route from Zamość with finish at Przemyśl, hugging Ukrainian border along the way. Similar to yesterday, an early breakaway was formed of 3 riders, but since they didn’t make a significant advantage, 5 more riders managed to bridge the gap during the first half of the stage. Their gap was no more than 3 minutes as our team controlled the peloton most of the way.

Matej Mohoric: “Today we raced as a team as we defended our leader’s jersey and we rode in the front the whole day. I was feeling well in the final, I was riding together with Dylan for a good result, and in the last climb I was feeling OK, so I went for it myself. I just missed fight for the win and got away with the 3rd place, which is a good result, and we would like to improve that in the upcoming stages.”

Tim Harris, our sports director: “The plan was today to get our two leaders (Mohoric and Teuns) to the bottom of the finishing climb in the front group and then see what happen in the climb. So to achieve this, we had to do quite a lot of work, because the break went quite early and our guys had to ride hard. On the final circuit (22km) we caught the breakaway. On the finishing climb, both Matej and Dylan were in a good position, but in the end, Matej got 3rd and Dylan 9th, just outsprinted by Almeida from Quickstep. All in all, it’s a positive day, the race went as we planned it, OK, we didn’t win, but we have a very good result.”
