It’s already time for another Monument: ‘Il Lombardia’. Traditionally known as the final Classic race of the season, it has been rescheduled for this Saturday 15 August.

Team Bahrain McLaren will tackle the demanding 231km course from Bergamo to Como with a 7-man squad, including strong climbers as Hermann Pernsteiner and Mark Padun, supported by the experienced Eros Capecchi, Grega Bole and Enrico Battaglin. The young riders Domen Novak and Scott Davies round out the lineup.

Team Bahrain McLaren Sports Director Franco Pellizotti says: “Although it comes to a different moment of the season and some strong riders won’t compete here as they are at Dauphiné, ‘Il Lombardia’ will be as always a tough race, considering also the heat that will probably play its part. The course is selective, featuring the traditional ascents of Colle Gallo, Colle Brianza, Madonna del Ghisallo, Sormano, Civiglio and San Fermo della Battaglia in the final, before the classic arrival on the Como lakefront. We can count on a highly motivated leader as Pernsteiner, who is in good shape, as Padun, who lives nearby and knows those climbs very well. Capecchi feels also good and his experience will be helpful”.
